Description:
This full-day program is designed to equip physician leaders
and managers to enable physician and other members of the health care team to
keep their eye on the prize with regard to quality, safety, satisfaction, and
resource utilization. Not only will participants enhance their knowledge and
skills to lead and manage during hard economic times but will also benefit from
being trained how to make tough decisions like downsizing, closures,
restructuring, and how to communicate these decisions.
Learning
Objectives:
- Discuss
the relationship between the overall economy and the impact on your
organization.
- Describe
how to renew commitment to the vision, mission, and values of your
organization while at the same time becoming more efficient without
sacrificing effectiveness, quality, safety, satisfaction, and performance.
- Identify
typical individual responses to economic turbulence, organizational
change, and job/role uncertainty.
- Conduct
an inventory of organizational resources to support physicians and other
health care professionals in adjusting to economic and organizational
changes in a healthy way that does not result in declines in performance.
- Explore
the role of the physician leader and manager in supporting physicians and
other staff in making these adjustments while at the same time keeping
focused on the provision of high quality care.
- Present
a decision-making model to be applied to organizational changes that may
need to take place including downsizing, closures, restructuring, and
budget cuts.
- Acquire
and practice “time-tested” ways to communicate “bad news” that balances
truth-telling with compassion.
- Confront
the reality for the physician leader and manager and provide a toolkit to
assess one’s own career/role risk in this current economic climate.
